When, back in the 1960's, the first foreign visitors discovered the Algarve's natural potential regarding tourism, Carvoeiro immediately became a first-choice spot in this region, and for many reasons: because of its quiet and safe white sand beaches, nestled between limestone cliffs, where the wind and the tide have sculpted beautiful caves; because of its shiny days and its ever blue sea; and also because of its people's hospitality.

            Of course, modern times have brought some progressive changes in the village: the daily restlessness of fishermen, the silence of summer nights, some simple gestures of the inhabitants have slowly disappeared. We've lost some smells, some flavours and also part of the old whitewashed houses that used to lie between the hills. However, despite the huge urban growth and the great social, economical and cultural changes that Carvoeiro has gone through, it was able to preserve its beauty, its magic and the brotherly smile of its people, which attracts every year thousands of new tourists and makes some faithful visitors come back often.  Besides, the enterprising spirit of Carvoeiro's people has enabled them to develop, along the years, a high standard supply, especially in the fields of gastronomy and entertainment, which satisfies a very diverse and hard to please demand.
